The door creaks open and, summoning all your courage, you step inside.
If you’ve found your way here, you’re probably a little curious. Maybe have a bit of a reckless streak. Either way…
Welcome! Come on in! (unless you’re a vampire, then this invite is rescinded).
I’m Richard Freeland—fiction author, teller of tales where strange creatures slip through the cracks of reality or psyche, and fan of all things haunted, hidden, or hilariously human. I write paranormal thrillers and horror, tales of the macabre, often born from my Southern roots. Sometimes I drift into other genres if a story idea latches on with its claws and won’t let go.
This newsletter is where I share what I’m working on, what keeps me up at night, and what stories or storytellers I think you’ll love too. You’ll also get the occasional peek behind the curtain: how I build my books, wrestle with plot twists, or try (and fail) to ignore the drama generated by my two weird cats while I’m writing. They think they’re my muses.
You can expect:
Sneak peeks of upcoming stories and novels
Musings on writing, creativity, and the publishing process
Spotlights on books and authors I admire (especially the spooky ones)
Personal stories from the road, the porch, and the kitchen
Humor, horror, and the odd Southernism
And just enough truth to make it all feel a little dangerous
Your Safe Place – A Politics and Religion-Free Zone
There are two subjects I won’t be covering here: politics and religion. Not because they’re unimportant, but because others do it better—and this is meant to be your escape.
Hey, I'm just a fun-loving pirate at heart. Sail along with me for the pillage and the plunder.
I am playing this by ear, and learning as I go, so bear with me while I get it worked out.
If you like your fiction dark but your company warm, you’re in the right place.
Thanks for signing up - and stay strange my friends.
Richard
